Orkney Nature Festival 2024 Postcard Competition

This year, the Orkney Nature Festival are running a competition for local children to design a nature-themed postcard. The competition is free to enter, and is open to anybody up to the age of 17, with two separate age categories:

  • 11 yrs and under
  • 12 yrs to 17 yrs

 

                  

 

To enter our competition:

  • Choose an icon of Orkney’s natural environment, from; mountain hare, puffin, grey seal or Scottish primrose.  
  • Design an A6-size image based on your chosen organism, in any medium you like (drawing, painting, collage…).
  • Write your name, your age, and a contact phone number on the back.
  • Drop your card off at one of our collection boxes (at KGS reception, Stromness Library or Pickaquoy Centre), or send it to Henry Memmott, Kirkwall Grammar School, The Meadows, KW15 1QN.

The closing date for entries is the Wednesday 24th April 2024.

Entries will be judged by local artist and writer Ellen Forkin, who is well known for her work inspired by folklore and the natural world of Orkney. A winner in each category will be chosen, who will receive a certificate and a set of real postcards made from their design.

All entries will be displayed as part of the Nature Family Day, on the 18th of May, at Kirkwall Grammar School.
