Species on the Edge Daily Nature Walk

Join the Species on the Edge Orkney team each day for an early morning walk around the 2km RSPB Brodgar nature reserve footpath to discover this wildlife haven in the heart of Neolithic Orkney.  On a gentle stroll on the grassy path, enjoy wildflowers, babbling curlew, lapwings displaying, buzzing bumblebees, and perhaps even a selkie seal or two!  We will also try some mindfulness to connect us to nature in this special place.  All welcome – anyone under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. 

 

RSPB Youth Art Day

Calling out all the youth to join the RSPB learning Officer on a fun day of drawing/ crafting the birds of Orkney. Pop in to draw, create and chat about all the birds the RSPB helps to protect in Orkney!

Visit Skara Brae for a fun-filled nature themed weekend! Learn about how the Neolithic people engaged with nature, and how that has changed in the past 5000 years. Follow our nature trail to try and spot some local wildlife, try out some bird watching with our binoculars and get creative with our crafty corner.

Join Kirkwall Kayak Club for a unique opportunity to explore an area of Orkney's coastline with experts on hand to talk about the wildlife you will see. Kayak and clothing provided. Footwear not provided, bare feet is fine, or bring footwear you don't mind getting wet. Participants should bring dry clothing, towel and snacks/drink. No experience necessary, this event is suitable for complete beginners. Age 18+.

Orkney Nature Festival Beach Clean

Greener Orkney run a series of beach cleans throughout the year. As well as cleaning the beach we gather sample data which goes into the information gathered by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) for the UK. We also work with the MCS to show the sources of the litter on the Scottish Islands to help look for solutions to the problem of Marine Litter.
