Walking Group - November 21st 2025

by Tim Wright - 13:47 on 23 November 2025

Surprisingly 15 of us met at the Standing Stones today which rather more than expected. The forecast was for a dry morning with an increasing SW wind. In the event it was cold and chilly while awaiting everyone to arrive, but promptly at 10.30 we set off by the Watch Stone and along the boardwalk towards the Ring of Brodgar. We soon warmed up but it was not a day for standing around looking at the wildfowl out on the Lochs. However a male Hen Harrier and 3 Snipe were spotted by the birders in the Group. Once around the Ring, we headed back to the Bird Hide along from the Standing Stones. We got there just as the rain was starting. There in the shelter most of us had a snack and hot drinks to warm us up. So a 3 mile walk which was just what was needed after the travel restrictions of ice and snow of the past few days .

We will get going again on Friday January 16th.

Keep moving.
