U3A Music Appreciation Group 1 - November 2021

Three members of Music Appreciation Group One met at Glenys’s house on Monday, 1 November and spent an enjoyable two hours listening to the following pieces of music (some on CD and some via YouTube), all by composers whose names began with the letter ‘P’.

Florence PRICE, Symphony No 3 in C minor, Juba: Allegro, BBC National of Wales,

Charles Hubert PARRY, Symphony No 2 in F major, III (Cambridge), RSNO                                                  

Arvo PART, Voces8. The Deer’s Cry

Sergey PROKOFIEV, Romeo and Juliet, Dance of the Knights, Valery Gergiev, LSO

Michael PRAETORIUS,  Dances from Terpsichore, Voices of Music                                               

Henry PURCELL, Music for a While, David Daniels – With Craig Ogden guitar

Giacomo PUCCINI,  Musetta’s Waltz,  from La Bohéme

PERGOLESI, Stabat Mater, Dolorosa, Gerard Lesne with soprano Veronique Gens 

Charles Hubert PARRY, Symphony No 5 in B minor, Lento, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (Symphonie Fantasia 1912 – published posthumously)

The next meeting, to be held on Monday, 6th November, will be at Angela’s house, and all being well, the theme will be:  Composers, or compositions, beginning with the letter ‘Q’ (if possible!).
