U3A Music Appreciation Group One - July 2019

by Glenys Alsop - 13:08 on 05 July 2019

Kate’s house was the venue for the July meeting of Music Appreciation Group One, held on Monday the 1st.

It was to be John’s choice of music, and he had chosen “Water” (rivers, lakes, seas, etc), as his theme.  For various reasons, the group on the day was a small one, but they produced a most enjoyable morning of music, as follows:

Vaughan Williams:  ‘The Waves’, from his ‘A Sea Symphony’;

Fran Gray, Hoy:  ‘Water Sound Shore’;

Voices of the Valley: ‘Sailing’;

A movement from Handel’s ‘Water Music’;

Enya:  ‘A Day without Rain’;

Glasgow Orpheus Choir: ‘White Waves on the Water’;

Offenbach:  The first movement of ‘Barcarolle’;

Two pieces by Percy Grainger: ‘Two Sea Shanties’, and ‘Shallow Brown’;

Emily Smith:  ‘Roll on Lovely Doon’;

Andy Williams: ‘Moon River’;

Tony Bennett: ‘Come Rain or Shine’.

The venue and theme for the next meeting (to be held on Monday, August 5) has yet to be decided.
