BIRD WATCHING

by Ken O'Connor - 10:04 on 19 April 2012

18th April
The Birdie group had an enjoyable walk at Brognar , along the shore of Stenness Loch  viewing the  Skylarks and meadow pipits of which there were quite a number feeding on the seed fields .  Shell ducks  out on the water, then walking via the shore to Barnhouse, finding Lapwings, Teal, pied wagtails, short eared owl, red shanks, and a variety of all the usual birds;  On to the Hide to view all the Whooper swans and Tufted ducks , but there was a distinct lack of wild life this time which could be put down to a very heavy thunder shower which actually missed our location so all stayed dry.  Thanks to Doreen for being the leader today and all members who attended.
Next months walk will be Hoy on the 16th May to see the red throated divers so if you feel fit then please let Jack or myself know so can organise transport in good time.
