Sanday claim first silverware of the season

Sanday won the Spiers cup which took place in the Masonic, the first cup of the season, beating the Wanderers 4-2 in the final. Untouchables A won the plate competition.

The Warriors stated their intentions for the season ahead, beating the reigning league champions the Legion 4-1 in the quarter finals.

180s from Andrew Clouston and Martin Peace, Ivan Leslie hit a 120 checkout.

• The cups continue on Monday 5th Sept with the Lynnfield Cup in the Legion. It is for A teams only. The following Friday, Sept 9th, the Foubister Cup for B teams takes place in the Masonic, names by 7.30pm.

The leagues get underway the week of September 12th. Fixtures are published online as well as in venues.

Jim Scollie's expanded round-up and fixtures

A rather disappointing entry of only ten teams for the first cup of the new season - seven 'A' league teams and only three 'B' league teams.
None of the 'B' teams got past their first games, but they all played good darts - only the finishing was the telling point. There were not many surprise results but a notable one was the meeting of last season's 'A' champions, the Legion, and last season's 'B' league champions, the Warriors which the Warriors won 4-1. The defending cup holders, the Wanderers the beat the Warriors to move into the final, where they played Sanday who had been showing great form in beating both the Untouchables teams. They continued to show that form as they took the cup with a 4-2 winning score.
The first-round losers went into the plate competition, with the Untouchables 'A' beating 4-3 to win.
The first 180s of the season fell to Andrew Clouston and Martin Peace, with the only high checkout of 120 from Ivan Leslie.
On Friday night the 'B' boy's got the chance to win a cup on their own as the Foubister Cup will be played in the Masonic. It's a Cricket Cup but the format has been changed from a four-man team to a two or three man team and will be two single games plus a doubles game. Teams can enter one, two or three teams depending on how many players they have registered.
There's one change in the cup fixture list with the Davy Cooper Cup changed from Saturday, November 5, to Saturday, October 29, as there's a Farmers Market that day in the Masonic. It's names in by 3pm and not 1pm as advertised.
Next Monday, September 12 is d-day for the start of the league programme starting. Who will claim the 50th 'A' league title? Can any team stop the Legion who has won every title since the year 2009 up to the present day? How will last year's 'B' champions do in the big league and who will fail to remain in the 'A' league? Who's going to be the top 'B' team? Only time will tell.
A big thank you to Ali Flett of Williamsons for sponsoring the leagues.
