Darts - Cricket Cup week

There was a very poor turn out for both the cricket team cups only seven of the 12 ‘A’ teams entered for the Lynnfield Cup and even less for the Foubister Cup for ‘B’ teams as only five came forward but there were some very good games.

Both semi-finals in the ‘A’ games, with the Untouchables beating the Legion 3-1 and the Golf Club taking out Wanderers, also 3-1.

And they continued that form in the final and won 3-1 with some very close games.

In the ‘B’ event, in the first semi-final, St Ola beat Tankerness in the play off game to win 3-2 and in the other semi- the Legion arrows took out the Motorhoose 3-1.

The final looked easy for the Arrows as they raced to a two-nil lead only to lose the next two so it went to the play off shoot out and it was won by St Ola 3-2.

It was a different story for the Cricket Singles and Doubles with a very good entry of 31 for the singles and 16 pairs in the doubles, as happens when most of the top players are there some fell early on, but it was a good line up by semi-final time with the holders — Stevie Linklater and Bruce Moar — beating Jim Brown and Keith Brumpton. Their final opponents were Raymie Rendall and Davy Henderson who beat Ivan Leslie and Alan Gray in the other semi-final, but they couldn’t handle Stevie and Bruce and lost out 2 nil.

The game players lined up for the singles and once again big names fell early on but by semi-final time it was some line up with Ivan Leslie losing out to Robbie Stanger and the holder, Kevin Gray, getting the better of Stevie Linklater. Two-nil was the score in both matches, and that continued in the final with Kevin keeping his title.

There were three 180s scored from Stevie Linklater, Paul Firth and Kevin Gray. Derek Firth had a 171.

Ian Wilkie hit the magic three bulls which is six wickets in the cricket game.

It’s now on to the second ranking game on Friday night with the Pit Stop Cup Singles being played in the Golf Club, names must be in by 7.30pm. It’s for registered players only.

A last call for league entry fees — pay to the treasurer or secretary.
