A great turn out of 41 players toed the oche for the brand new 18-30 Trophy, made out of stone by Stevie Linklater.
Most of the players play in Kirkwall, but quite a few came from the West Mainland and, after a hard afternoon’s play, it was a West Mainland player who contested the final.
And he not only contested it, he walked away with it, with a 4-1 win over Michael Moodie. His name is Erlend Ritch, and he played well all day.
Next up is the ‘B’ League Singles in the Masonic on Friday night. Names by 7.30 p.m.
In the Williamson’s ‘A’ League, the Legion have increased their lead to ten points after beating RBLM 11-1.
The Commodores and Wanderers both lost ground by drawing six-all, the Golf Club had the week off, and there was joy at last for Meadowbank as they gained their first point by holding the Untouchables six-all.
The other Untouchables put an end to Sanday’s chances by beating them 7-5.
That was also the score for Quoyburray ‘B’ against the other Quoyburray team.
In the Williamson’s ‘B’ League, Shapinsay are six points ahead of their nearest challengers, after beating Tankerness 7-5.
The Sands are still in with a shout after beating the Shore ‘2’ 8-4, but they have played a game more.
The Murray Arms are in third spot following an 8-4 defeat of Deerness.
There was a good win also for the Bilco Boys — 7-5 over the Legion Arrows, and the same score for the Likely Lads over the Nomads.
A postponed game from last week saw the Sands pick up more points, beating Deerness 7-5.
