Tattie Bogle Charity night

The annual Tattie Bogle Charity Mixed Doubles, recognised as the last game of the season, attracted 19 ladies and 17 gents to the Legion.
As it is a names-out-of-the-hat competition no one knows who they are playing with, and as it is a fun night, I don’t think anyone is worried about who they get.
As it was, there were some very good pairings, and the semi-final line-ups looked very strong.

Going on to the final were Kay Pirie and Mally Johnstone, a surprise entry, and waiting for them were Catherine Symons, fresh from winning the Caithness Singles and Doubles in Wick. Her partner was Craig Moar, and Cath kept up the good form and they ran out 3-1 winners to pick up the brand new trophy.

Going along with the main game was the fun boards. The Yorkshire board, which has no trebles, and the quatro board, which has an extra ring, which counts as four-times the score.
Winning the low score for the ladies was Katy Croy, on 85, and for the gents was Paul Firth on 27.
That was on the Yorkshire Board and on the quatro board for high scores were Yvone Stanger for the ladies, with 359, which was higher, then Craig Taylor’s 308 for the gents, but Craig did score the max of 240, with three quatros on the 20 – the first time that has been scored in Kirkwall.

But, on the night, the real winner was the charity – Belarus Children’s Holiday Fund with £401 raised, mainly by the raffle. A big thanks to Ella, who sold tickets all night, but also to all the people who bought tickets.

Of course, we all know that’s not all the darts yet, as there’s the four qualifying games to go to find eight players to take on the big boys in September.
The first is Friday night, in the Masonic Club. Names by 7.30 p.m. and, remember, it is open to any player, male or female, aged 18 or over.
That is followed next Friday in the Stromness Golf Club, with the second qualifier.
The Legion will be holding a Jubilee Singles on Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. Members and guests, male or female are welcome.
