Legion and Sanday are champions

Both the Williamson’s sponsored A and B Leagues were settled with a week to spare.

The Legion retained their A title with a 9-3 defeat of third-placed Wanderers, but all they needed was to win four games and that was done by the half-way stage. With one game to go, can they finish undefeated?

The Untouchables, already sure of runners-up spot, finished their season also with a 9-3 win out at the Commodore who, after a very good first half, have faded away in the second half, but even so, they could still finish in fourth place which is held by the Golf Club after their 9-3 defeat of RBL2 who have still to win a game.

Another good win for Meadowbank, beating Wanderers B 8-4, and they could end up in fourth spot, depending on other results. Quoyburray have come to life to late to affect the top positions
and they had a very good six-all draw with the Untouchables A.

It is also congratulations to the Sanday darts team who have taken the Williamson’s B League by storm as a 9-3 win over the Likely Lads gave them the title at the first time of asking and they are also undefeated. The Fanooks are runners-up and travelled out to the Hope and won 7-5 over the
Murray Arms who, after a very good start, have also faded as the season went on. The Sands, 8-4 winners over Deerness, have moved up into third spot after Shore 2 went down 7-5 to the Bilco Boys. Tankerness had another good win, this time 7-5 over Sands  2, who collect the wooden spoon and not the other Sands team.

There were 180’s from John Thomson, Jamie Robertson, Brian Moar, Ivan Leslie, Robert Gatt, Martin Peace, Paul Foubister, Lee Macpherson, Mike Bain, George Grieve, Bruce Moar, Billy Ward, Craig Taylor and two from Ryan Tulloch, Robbie Stanger, Ross Donaldson, Keith Brumpton and Derek Firth.

There were high checkouts of 101 from Colin Ross and Ivan Leslie, 102 from Martin Peace, 106 from Robert Gatt, 110 from Sean Seator, 112 from Wayne Monkman, 114 from Ali Flett, 115 from Trevor Shearer, Alan Gray and Ivan Leslie, 116 from Kevin Gray, 145 from D. Wards and 164 from Robbie Stanger in a 12-darter with partner Willie Bremner. Brian Moar also scored a 174.

This week is the last of scoring 180’s and high finishes to count. Next weekend it is the big one, with Shetland here, with the game being played on Friday, April 22, in the Masonic Club. Players are requested to be in the club by 7pm. Then, on the Saturday, it the Ladies and Gent's Anniversary Shields in the Royal British Legion Club. Names in by 1.30pm.

There is still a very poor response as far as tickets for the Do is concerned, but there is always a last minute rush, so get them now!
