Legion win in top of the table clash

In the Williamson’s ‘A’ League, the Legion are clear at the top after a dramatic win over the Untouchables. Both teams were undefeated going into the game, but it was the Legion who produced the goods as they raced into a 6-0 half-time lead with some of the best darts seen in Kirkwall this season and that was from both teams.

The Untouchables rallied in the second half and shared the games 3-all to leave the Legion 9-3 winners and increased their game difference to 13 and three points better off. Earlier in the week, the Untouchables had a big 11-1 win over Wanderers ‘B’.

The Commodore moved up to third equal in the league by beating Quoyburray ‘B’ 10-2 and joining them are the Wanderers after a narrow 7-5 defeat of Untouchables ‘A’. The Golf Club had a very good win over Quoyburray and are in mid table. RBL2s game against Meadowbank was postponed due to some Meadowbank players being stormbound in North Ronaldsay.

In the Williamson’s ‘B’ League both the Fanooks and Sanday are opening gaps over the rest. The Fanooks beat the Sands 9-3 and Sanday overcame the Bilco Boys 8-4. Deerness had another good win, this time over the Likely Lads 7-5. The Shore are not too far behind after a 7-5 win over Tankerness and there was no scorecard from the Sands ‘2’ v Shore ‘2’ game – points could be deducted from the home team. Twelve noon on Saturday is the deadline for getting the cards into the Royal British Legion Club.

There were 180s from Michael Moodie, Kevin Gray, Ian Linklater, Martin Peace, Robert Gatt, Brian Moar, Brian Stevenson, Paddie Kirkpatrick, F. Tait, Brian Murray, Leigh Shearer in a 12-darter, Ian Linklater and Craig Taylor, with three from Derek Firth. That’s 97 this season so far.

There were high checkouts of 100 from Stevie Linklater, 104 from brother Ian, 106 from Jimmy Miller and Michael Muir jnr, 120 from Bruce Moar and Andrew Watson, 124 from Mike Bain, 126 from Robert Gatt, 129 from Robbie Stanger and 140 from Brian Murray.

Once again, only four teams turned up for the ‘A’ Leagues Allied Hotels Cup. That is the fourth cup now that there has been only four entries. There were some very good games in both semi-finals, with the Golf Club and Legion going on to the final. The final was won 3-0 by the Legion.

The next domestic cup is the Foubister Cup on Friday, November 12, in the Masonic Club.

Good luck to the team up in Shetland. The county game takes place on Friday in the Leriwck Legion.
