Self-Directed Support (SDS)

What is self-directed Support?

Self-directed support is about people being in control of the support they want and need to be able to live their life to the best quality.

Self-directed Support funding is also available to those who provide care and support as well as care and support receivers.

People are now able to control their level of care or support in several different ways:

A direct payment

  • A direct payment is money that is paid directly to you by the local authority so you can arrange your own support.

An individual service funds

  • An individual service fund is when you choose and direct your support, but the Local Authority or another organisation arranges it all and handles the financial side

A personal budget

  • A personal budget is when money is available to you and the local authority will organise and arrange the support that they think is right for you.

YOU MAY ALSO CHOOSE TO HAVE A COMBINATION OF ALL THREE!

Your Support, Your Choice

What can a self-directed support advocate help you with?

  • Self-assessment

  • Help to get your point of view and wishes across
