Founded in 1968, Orkney Heritage Society is a charitable body whose objectives are:
In furtherance of these objectives the Society organises public lectures, conferences and trips. The Society produces various publications and organises a series of awards. It also provides support to projects consistent with its purposes, participates in various amenity groups and is consulted on planning matters.
![]() Following on from our initiative in 2010 The Year o Orkney Dialect, we have commissioned research into dialect entitled 'Migration and the Mither Tongue'. Dialect Scholar Tom Rendall has interviewed a range of people on their attitudes to dialect and is presenting a series of talks over the coming month. This has been made possible by support from Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership and Scotland's Islands.
