Advocacy Basic Skills Training Course The Advocacy Basic Training Skills Course is the starting point for people who want to be volunteer advocates. The course usually involves attending three evening sessions that last for about 3 hours (refreshments are provided). Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with Advocacy Orkney will be invited for an informal meeting with the Co-ordinator. At this meeting the Co-ordinator will explain all about the organisation and the type of work that advocates do. Prior to going on the course all new volunteers will be asked to complete an application form. We can help you complete the form if you want. After completion of the course new volunteers will work with experienced advocates. Each volunteer is given a workbook that gives details of certain tasks we would like them to achieve before being allocated their own clients. A final interview will be held once the workbook has been completed and supervision will be given throughout. While this course is for anyone interested in being a volunteer advocate with Advocacy Orkney, regardless of whether you have any special skills to offer, we would be really keen to recruit some volunteers who have experience of communicating with people with profound learning disabilities and people with dementia. The course is free. We can be flexible with the timing of the course so don’t be put off if you can’t make it in the evening. If you would like to more information, please contact us on Tel. 870111 or email us at our address on the contact page. |
