u3a Walking Group One - Newark, Deerness - 25 October

by Tim Wright - 04:08 on 30 October 2024

On Friday 25 October, fourteen of us met at the slipway at Newark Beach in Deerness. The weather was a little overcast but the strong winds of the day before had been replaced by a moderate breeze from the north west. We set out along the beach where there was a large dead seal. The path along the shore to the picnic bench had a lot of new stone and seaweed on it as a result of the recent gales. The sun came out as we went and people started shedding clothes. We went along the back roads, past Mabel's house to the beach again and to the slip. We completed the walk of 3.5 miles in sun. Some tried to have lunch at Celina Rupp's but a bus party there precluded that plan. All in all a lovely October walk for us to blow away the cobwebs.

The next walk will be Frday 22nd November in combination with Ellie's Group and will be flatter. She is keen to have a meal out with the group after the walk. So it will probably be in the Stromness area with the exact route depending on the weather at the time.

Keep moving,

Tim
