Walking Group - 25th July 2025

by Tim Wright - 14:33 on 28 July 2025

Dear Everyone,

Eleven of us met at the church in Orphir Village with the idea of walking to the top of Ward Hill via the Scorradale Ridge. The weather looked OK initially but as we waited for the start time a drizzle set in and the top of the hill disappeared in cloud. Plan B was to walk to the Round Church and back along the cliffs. With minutes to go the drizzle cleared and the hill became visible again. Off we went in 3 cars to the top of the Scorradale road, parked and set off along the ridge path. All went well for a while until one of our number felt unwell .A rest and snack were taken but a return to the cars was in order.  Arriving there our unwell colleague had revived somewhat and was driven off back home The rest of us took the shorter path to the top of the hill opposite where the Radar mast is for Scapa Flow. A lovely view of the whole of the Flow greeted at the top which  was a degree of compensation for the view we might have seen from the top of Ward Hill. So a shorter and slower walk than anticipated but no one minded as we all had a good chat and plenty of fresh air.

The next walk will be Friday 22nd August and maybe a second go at the Ward Hill walk depending on the weather at the time.

Keep moving,
