BIRD WATCHING GROUP - APRIL

by Jack MacInnes - 16:35 on 16 April 2014

U3A Bird Walk Tue. 15th. April.

A small but enthusiastic party assembled to walk from Marwick beach to Buckquoy Point. In good conditions 43 species were sighted over some four hours and as many miles.

Highlights included the first swallows, a large formation of pink footed geese flying WNW ( thank you to Ray Hallam for reliable identification at altitude )  and an immature glaucous gull ( well done Tim Wright ) which showed well along the Birsay village shore. Auks were plentiful but a fraction of previous numbers on the slopes and ledges, and kittiwakes very scarce indeed.

Apologies to members who did not receive the information e - mails , I will try and update addresses.

Jack MacInnes.
