BIRD WATCHING JANUARY

by Liz Lea - 10:30 on 16 January 2014

The Kirkwall 5-day forcast had promised light drizzle till noon, when it would start to deluge & the wind would pick up! And still 7 stalwarts turned up in Finstown to look at birds. It wasn't too bad & we enjoyed seeing 17 species & were able to ogle everybody's well-stocked feeders.Reading 'Orkbird' on our return we discovered the absent goldfinches, long-tailed tits & blackcap have been coming to the feeders "early & late". So now we know!It is also great to be able to say that the forecast was spot-on & we got home before the worst of the weather.

Regards. Liz Lea
