Silver Snipes 2009

The Skippers Races competition due to take place on Saturday, 5 September was cancelled as insufficient skippers were available to take part.  However, the Autumn Silver Snipe Series did begin on Sunday, 6 September with four Snipes competing.

The wind was mainly from the south or south-west.  The courses set for the two three-lap races were 1S, 5P, 2P, 7S and 7P, 5P, 2P, 6S, 1P.   Conditions were tricky with many gusts and wind shifts which led to race positions changing.  Go Faster Blue made a good start in the first race only to be overtaken by all the other boats, led by Fiddlesticks, long before the finish.  The start of the second race was not so well timed and Go Faster Blue was early over the start line and forced to re-start and lose too much ground to challenge the leaders.  In alla the excitement, Wild Goose missed the start gate completely and retired after the race.  Bonxie worked hard to build a substantial lead over Fiddlesticks but a missed massive windshift allowing Fiddlesticks came through to win.  The results of the races were:

Race 1

1 Fiddlesticks (Neil Foubister/Mairi Fleet), 2 Wild Goose (Mark Taylor/Thorfinn Johnston), 3 Bonxie (James Bugon/Kenny Holland), 4 Go Faster Blue (Pete Tipler/Rik Smith).

Race 2

Fiddlesticks, 2 Bonxie, 3 Go Faster Blue, Retired Wild Goose.

Malcolm Tipler and Fred Johnston manned the safety boat and Isobel Tipler was the race starter.
