reduce, reuse and recycle at our yard garson industrial estate, stromness, orkney kw16 3ju. orkney zerowaste’s ‘steptoze yard’ is a ‘one stop drop’ for the community. we accept donations of unwanted items and help them find new homes. the yard also sells a variety of tree saplings and plants donated by our local supporters. open every wed & sat at 11am-3pm.

Orkney Zerowaste is a local Scottish registered charity working in the community to raise waste awareness and offer practical recycling advice in Orkney. 

We also run the Orkney Zerowaste 'Steptoze Yard', a community re-use/recycling site on Garson Place in Stromness, a 'one stop drop' helping our community by offering recycling solutions whenever we can! We accept donations of unwanted items, saplings and plants, and help them find new homes with local bargain hunters. 

The Yard is open twice a week: On Wednesdays and  Saturdays at 11am-3pm. See our Facebook page for regular updates and please 'like' our page.

The Yard can accept donations of items in good working order with Fire Safety Labels attached where applicable, such as:

  • Small furniture items (e.g. bedside tables, chairs, folding tables).
  • Garden furniture, equipment, or tools (e.g., lawnmowers, pots).
  • Bric-a-brac collections.
  • Items where resale is viable. 

The Yard cannot accept donations of:

  • Large furniture items (e.g. sofas, big armchairs, Welsh dressers). 
  • White goods or fabrics. 

We are registered with Voluntary Action Orkney. Our mission is to encourage local innovation in reusing and recycling waste, and are always looking for new, local solutions for specific local waste problems. If we can help you, please let us know.
