Tom Notman Cup win for Wilkie

Iain Wilkie beat Robbie Norquoy 2-0 to win the Tom Notman Cup

Only 17 players — nine ‘A’, seven ‘B’ and one non-registered — entered the Tom Notman Memorial Singles Cup.
Plenty of the top league players were missing, while the defending champion Derek Firth went out in the first round. The final was between Iain Wilkie and Robbie Norqoy, with Iain winning 2-0.
With the Legion having their ‘no game’ week, the chasing pack had the chance to close the gap and the Commodore led the way by securing the league’s second whitewash of the season, beating Quoyburray ‘B’ 12-0. This leaves the Commodores five points behind the Legion, with three games left.
The Golf Club, the only other team in with a slender chance, beat the Sands ‘2’ 9-3, and the Sands also went down 8-4 to the Untouchables. It looks like it will be the Sands side who will drop to the ‘B’ League, however if they win their last game, the drop could be avoided.
The Legion Arrows, the other team facing the drop did their chances a lot of good by holding the Untouchables ‘A’ to a 6-6 draw. Sanday had a good win over the Warriors. The Wanderers game was postponed.

In the Williamsons ‘B’ League it’s still between three teams, but the only way Tankerness can win is if both Shapinsay and Quoyburray to lose all their remaining games. There was no score in from the Tankerness v Quoyburray game so as it stands Shapinsay took over the top spot after a 7-5 win over the Bilco Boys.
Quoyburray are in second spot and they play Shapinsay next week — a result which could decide the title and promotion to the ‘A’ league. The St Ola ‘B’ boys have already won the wooden spoon, with The Motorhoose now in second bottom spot after losing out 9-3 to the Murray Arms. St Ola stayed up in third bottom spot with a good draw six all with the Vikings.

180s: Ben Hogan, Gordon Rendall, Jamie Drever, Robbie Stanger, Freddie Tait, Erlend Lennie, Kenny Gillespie, Eddie Drever, Ian Munro, Keith Bain, Grant Harrold, Derek Ward Jnr, Brett Dickinson, two from Jim Brown and Ian Findlay had three.

High checkouts: 100, 103 and 122 from Stevie Linklater, 101 and 106 Erlend Lennie, 102 Robbie Norquoy, 104 Michael Muir, 105 Colin Findlay, 112 Wayne Small, 114 Ben Hogan and Ian Wilkie, 115 Aaron Edwardson, 118 Kevin Gray, 120 Keith Bain, 122 Craig Moar, 125 Graham Reid, 147 Leigh Shearer and 156 Ross Groundwater.

The last ranking points event, the League Singles is this Friday. Held in the Legion, names are to be in for 7.30pm and it’s for registered players only.
