What a great night of darts as 32 ‘B’ players put their names down for the Albyn Video Games singles shield with most of the top players there.
As it was a B ranking points event, some of them never made the points section.
The defending champion and birthday boy Mark Shearer, started his defence with a win over Robbie Norquoy followed by a defeat of Colin Findlay, however he then ran up against the brick wall called Brett Dickinson who was playing like a hero.
Brett made it into the semi-final to play Brian Murray and what a game as it went the whole distance with Brett taking it 3-2.
In the bottom half, Shapinsays, Jamie Marwick was carving everyone up as he made the final and it was the final everyone was wanting.
To begin with it looked like it would go the distance but at 2-2, Brett changed up a gear and Jamie dropped a gear and three games later, Brett was the new champion at 5-2. Nine 180’s was scored – a new record for a ‘B’ competition.

There’s no change at the top of the Williamsons ‘A’ League as all three contenders recorded wins. The Legion maintains their six point lead over the Commodores as they beat Sanday 8-4.
The Commodores are still in second spot but nearly came unstuck against Legion Arrows who they beat 7-5. That was also the score for the golf club over Wanderers who remain down near the relegation area. There was a very good win for Untouchbales ‘A’ 7-5 over the strong Warriors which put them out of contention for the title. No result from Quoyburray ‘B’ v Sands 2 game.

Three teams now share the lead in the Williamsons ‘B’ League. All except Shapinsay were held to a six all draw by the Muppets.
Quoyburray share the lead after a 9-3 win over the St Ola and Tankerness are also joint leaders with a 10-2 defeat of the Motorhoose but top score goes to the Vikings 11-1 win over St Ola ‘B’. The Vikings are only three points off the top spot. No score from the Murray Arms v Bilco Boys.

180’s from Kevin Gray, Kevin Peace, Jim Brown, Stevie Linklater, Raymie Rendall, Billy Ward, Leigh Shearer, Daniel Drever, Gary Wilson, Mark Shearer, Jamie Marwick, Andrew Rendall, Allan Brown and Erlend Eunson; two from Patrick O’ Neill, Brian Murray, Graham Firth and Brett Dickinson.

High checkouts of 100 from Billy Ward, Kevin Peace, Ivan Leslie and Kevin Gray, 101 Gordon Rendall, 104 Sean Shearer, Mark Shearer and Wayne Small, 107 Ian Stevenson and Brian Moar, 108 Robbie Norquoy, 126 Allan Brown and 130 Brian Murray, Daryl Robertson scored 177 and Ivan Leslie had an 11 dart leg.

It’s all go this weekend with the first of the 50 years events, it’s the Golden Singles and it is a real gold cup (plated anyway!) and it’s in the Legion on Saturday, names in by 1.30pm. It is an open competition for any player, male or female, who has played for a league team in Kirkwall over the past 50 years.

The competition has been split in two, with the first rounds a 301 double start, best of three legs as it was long ago, then from 16 down it will be five legs of 501 as played now. There will be cash prizes as well as a raffle maybe later on. It is hoped to get a top player up. The following Saturday it’s the turn of the under 30s. It is in the Masonic and it is open to any player, male or female, under 30 years old.
