Kevin and Derek win play-offs

The 2013-14 season might be nearing its end, but there was still time for some magic darts to be played, and none more so than out at the Merkister, as the west hosted the Orkney Doubles and Singles Play-off Championships.
The team game wasn’t played, and it looks unlikely that it will be played this year.
But, on to the doubles and singles, and the East pairing of Derek Firth and Kevin Gray — the Kirkwall champions and defending Orkney champions — took on West champions John Munson and Paul Foubister.
The power play of the Kirkwall boys overpowered their West counterparts 3-0, and Kevin kept up the good form with a 3-0 win over the West champion Mal Reid to win the singles title once again.
There is still more darts to play before the end of the season, starting on Friday, night, with the Ladies and Gents Charity Doubles, in the Masonic Club, with names due in by 7.30pm.
Remember, it’s separate ladies and gents competitions, and the visiting team from Mintlaw will be there taking part, along with a raffle, in aid of the last visit of the Belarus children. It is open to any player in Orkney.
Then, next Friday, it’s the Tattie Bogle Shield. It is a mixed doubles, with names out of the hat, and there is also a raffle with a few prizes on offer and proceeds going to the Orkney Heart Foundation.
