Legion back on top

The Legion are back on top of the Williamson’s ‘A’ League after an 11-1 win over the Wanderers, who were considered one of the main challengers for the title.
But, even this early, it looks like a three-horse race, along with the Golf Club who were 10-2 winners over Quoyburray, and Sanday, who didn’t have a game.
Quoyburray ‘B’ had another great win over Meadowbank. The score was 9-3, and they are in third spot.
The RBLM had a very good game, to hold last year’s runners-up, the Untouchables, to a six-all draw.
The other Untouchables team had a worse time, going down 10-2 to the Commodores, but things could change, as all the top teams play each other over the next few weeks.

Shapinsay remain top of the Williamson’s ‘B’ League, after a narrow 7-5 defeat of the Nomads, who have lost their last four games, all 7-5.
Not too far behind are the Murray Arms, who had a 10-2 win over Sands ‘2’, and there was a surprise defeat for the Sands, going down 7-5 to the Likely Lads, but came back with a 7-5 win over the Shore ‘2’.
Tankerness are going great guns in fourth place, after beating the Shore 9-3, and in their second game, the Shore ‘2’ didn’t fair any better, losing out 7-5 to the Legion Arrows.
The only draw saw the Bilco Boys share the points with Deerness.

What a week for 180s, with 35 being scored — 20 in the Pit Stop Singles.
They came from: Wayne Small; Allan Brown; Henry Bateman; Keith Bain; Keith Brumpton; Bruce Moar; Ian Findlay; Michael Moodie; Michael Muir Snr; Aaron Mitchell; Ian Wilkie; Brian Murray; Mike Bain; two from Archie Yule, Michael Montgomery, Alan Gray, Billy Brown and Stevie Linklater; with three from Brian Moar and Robbie Stanger. The two of them back-to-back. Kevin Gray hit six, taking his total up to 20 already!
High finishes: 100 from Kevin Sinclair and Bruce Moar; 103 and 136 from Kevin Gray; 101 Brian Moar; 105 Eddie Craigie and Ross Donaldson; 107 Brett Dickenson; 108 Arthur Cruickshank and Mike Bain; and 116 Ian Wilkie and 144 Ryan Tulloch.

Forty-eight players turned up for the second of the ranking points events, the Pit Stop Open Singles.
As it was an open event, there were eight non-registered players, and lots of the top players never made the points section and, like last year, it was a non-registered player who took the spoils, as ex-Kirkwall player Paul Foubister beat Kevin Gray 4-2.
As mentioned 20 180s were scored, and Robbie Stanger had a 12-dart leg, as did Stevie Linklater.

The next ranking event is a new event, the Jim Scollie Masters Singles, and it is in the Legion on Friday, November 23.
It replaces the Commodore Singles, and is for registered players only.

But, before then, it is on to this Saturday, with the Davy Cooper Memorial Singles being played in the Masonic. Names by 2.30 p.m., and it is open to any player, male or female. Raffle prizes welcome on the day.
