Legion whitewash again

They’re at it again – after hitting five whitewashes last season, the Legion has wasted no time in stacking up their first of the season, with a 12-0 win over the strong Untouchables ‘A’, and I’ve no doubt it’s the first of a few before the end of the season.

Level on points are the Untouchables, with a very good 9-3 win over the Commodores and, along with the Legion, are the only two undefeated teams, after Sanday went down to Meadowbank 7-5 – the same score as Wanderers and Quoyburray, who won their postponed game against Quoyburray ‘B’ 7-5.

The Golf Club got off the mark 9-3 against Wanderers ‘B’.

Not to be outdone, the other Legion team, RBLM, playing in the Williamson’s ‘B’ League, also scored a 12-nil whitewash, and it was the Shore on the receiving end, but the Shore ‘2’ did better, with a 7-5 win over Tankerness.

The Bilco Boys shared the points in a six-all draw with Shapinsay and, with them winning their first game 7-5 over the Shore, are well in touch with the top two.

The Likely Lads had their first win, after defeating Deerness 7-5. No score came in from the Sands.

Teams are warned that failure to hand in score cards by 12 noon on Saturdays will result in the home team losing points.

Also, teams failing to pay League entry fees by October 26 will also lead to loss of points.

There were 180s from Bruce Moar, Kevin Gray, Ali Flett, Paul Foubister, David Kirkpatrick, Robbie Stanger, Craig Taylor, Ian Wilkie, Michael Montgomery, Neil Tait, Brian Murray, Steven Gray, Derek Manson, Ali Learmonth and two from Brian Moar. Steven Gray also had one from the first game.

There were high-checkouts of 107 from Arthur Cruickshanks, Derek Firth and Steven Walls, who also had a 130. Davy Henderson had a 112, Eddie Craigie had 113, Kevin Gray scored 117 and Ian Wilkie realised 122. Robbie Stanger also had a 13-dart leg. The total of 180s scored is already up to 41.

Highest finish in the ‘A’ League went to Alan Gray with 153. Highest finish in the ‘B’ League was Thorfinn Eunson with 118.

But there’s a long way to go yet.

It’s down to ranking points events, with the first of seven taking place on Friday, in the Legion, and it’s the Louttit Singles. Names by 7.30 p.m.

It’s for registered players only, and it’s about time some player from the ‘B’ League won a ranking event. But, of course, if you don’t enter, you can’t win, so let’s see some of the up-and-coming young players get on the podium.

It’s the first of four ranking events leading up to the Christmas break and, of course, Shetland in April.
