Stevie retains title

There was not a huge turnout for the Shore Open Singles, with only 18
entering, but a fair mixture of players, with nine A players and nine B
players. Defending champion, Stevie Linklater, showed he wasn’t going to
give up the title lightly. He started off with a 140 finish in a 12-dart
leg.

By quarter-final time, there were four A and four B players left and by
the nature of the draw, it was two and two by the semi-final stage. But
that¹s where the B players exited and left Stevie Linklater and Ian
Wilkie, both Untouchables players, to contest the final. A fine exhibition
of darts it was, as legs of 15, 17, 18 and 20 darts for a 75.5 average gave
Stevie the game 4-0.

It is now on to the big one the League Singles on night, Friday, in
the Royal British Legion Club. Names in by 7.30pm. It is the last ranking
points event. The top five in the table are safe, but any of the next ten
players could still make it for the automatic places in the team to play
Shetland on April 22.

There are no changes at the top of either of the two leagues. In the
Williamson’s A League, leaders the Legion survived a dangerous trip out to
the Commodore and came back with a 9-3 win. The Untouchables went one
better, with a 10-2 defeat of Quoyburray. Meadowbank  played two games and
lost both of them, 7-5 to the Wanderers and 8-4 to the Commodore. RBL2 are
still waiting for their first points after going down 9-3 to Wanderers B
and Quoyburray B only just lost 7-5 at home to the Untouchables A.

It is still very close at the top of the Williamson’s B League. The
Fanooks still hold a two point lead over Sanday, after beating the Bilco
Boys 9-3, but Sanday went a couple of games better, with a 11-1 hammering of
the Shore who are lying fifth in the league. The Sands are in third spot
after their 8-4 win over the Likely Lads and another win for Deerness 7-5
over Sands 2 who remain in bottom spot. There was no score in from the
Murray Arms.

There were 180s from Kevin Gray, Ivan Leslie, Brian Moar, Robert Gatt,
Robbie Stanger, Ian Wilkie, Stevie Linklater, Michael Muir jnr, Steven
Tulloch and two from David Kirkpatrick.

There were high checkouts of 100 from Michael Bain, 102 from Paddy
Kirkpatrick and Michael Muir snr, 104 from K. Sinclair, 109 from Hamish
Baillie, 110 from Roy Griffiths, 112 from Jim Harcus, 115 from Gary Brown
and Ian Linklater, 119 from Ian Findlay, 123 from Derek Firth, 144 from
Kevin Gray, 147 from Martin Peace and a table-topping 156 from Ollie
Bethwaite. George Grieve scored a 177 and Brian Stevenson had a 13-darter.

Next Saturday, March 12, sees the biggest competition in the Northern Isles,
which carries a £1,080 prize tag, with the winner picking up £500 and there
is prizes right down to quarter-final level and £100 on offer for the best
lady and B player registered with KDDL. Registration by 1.30pm in the
Masonic Club. Donations are still required for the bottle stall /raffles.
