There was a busy week in the KDDL last week as teams made a sterling effort to catch up on games which had been postponed from earlier in the half.
Whilst the Ale Stars and Tankerness had their relegation from the Williamsons Butchers sponsored 'A' league weeks ago, the destination of the title remains in the balance as the Untouchables, Legion and Orkney Golf Club all won by the narrowest of margins. With the Untouchables and Legion yet to catch up on their previous tie, much will depend on the result of that match, with OGC still mathematically in contention at present.
The Sands wrapped up the 'B' league title a few weeks ago too, but Rough 'n' rowdy have given themselves an uphill challenge to gain promotion after drawing with bottom side Quoyburray 'B'. The Young Loons have been pushing for promotion for years now and have a real chance this season after beating the Bilco Boys and much will depend on their rescheduled tie with RNR. At the bottom end of the table nothing is settled yet. A double header between Bellevue and Quoyburray 'B' saw one win apiece move Bellevue out of the second relegation spot on game difference from the Muppets. Any two of the three can still go down.
With just two matches remaining in the inaugural 'C' league it is debutants Exporters who are first to gain promotion and will hope to seal the title this week. Shandy Bass could still pip them to the title but they have to secure their promotion first and hope the Exporters slip up.
Friday evening saw the Steven Flett Memorial Mixed doubles take place in the Legion, with funds of £355 raised going into the Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) Fundraising for Freya Rose fund , which funds heart screening events for anyone aged 14-35 here in Orkney. It was Katie Croy and Gary Wilson who emerged victorious, beating Senga and Craig Taylor in the final.
