An unusually quiet week in the season culminated with the Mixed Doubles in the Legion on Friday night. 12 pairs took part, all hoping to win through to get a crack at their West Mainland counterparts in the Orkney Championships.
Defending champions Kevin and Shona Gray made short work of their opponents to reach yet another final. Meeting them there were Michael Muir and Irene Thomson, who had endured one less round on their route to the final.
The final began very evenly with both pairs winning legs on through for the first four legs, before Kevin and Shona showed their class by going up through the gears. A 180 and a 145 checkout from Kevin helped enormously as they won out 4-2 in the end.
This Friday sees the final 'B'/'C' ranking competition take place with the 'B' singles in the Masonic, although points from the main League singles can also be added to the 'B' points tally yet.
Then next week it's the biggest singles competition of the year, the Tennent's Kirkwall Open taking place in the Masonic on Saturday, with a warm-up singles competition in there on the previous night.
