Jimic Flett, Stevie Garner, Sam and Graeme Louttit
For some the darts season only really starts once the league games begin and all three leagues roared into action, producing some shock results as well as some nail-biting finishes. At first glance, it appears the three tier system may work very well for the KDDL players.
The Louttit cup on Friday evening signalled the beginning of this season's ranking points competitions and the standard was extremely high, with lots of quality darts thrown. And to add an extra spice to the competition it was the emergence of players not normally reknowned for making the latter stages that added to the feel good factor. By semi-final time, Stevie Garner squared up to Bruce Moar, winning through in a deciding leg thriller. Meanwhile Wanderers player Jimic Flett proved he can still throw a mean dart, surving several match darts from Stevie Linklater to take his place in the final.
The final was exceptionally close, both averaging about the 70 mark for the entire game, but it was Stevie who finally broke Jimic's throw in the sixth leg to gain a huge advantage. Jimic roared back to make it 4-3 but missed his opportunity to draw level as Stevie's finishing which had been decisive all nigh, did not let him down as he hit the winning double. The cup was presented by Graeme and Sam Louttit on behalf of the Louttit family, with a slightly emotional champion thanking all who had come along and saying how hard it is to win anything up here with the current standard so high.
The league's take a break for the October holidays, but there is the Swanney Cup on Monday for all teams, followed by the Tom Notman Cup on Friday, which is open to anyone who has ever been registered in the KDDL.
