In collaboration with Orkney Nature Festival, OFC is hosting a full day of events at Yesnaby. Primula scotica, or the Scottish Primrose, is a plant endemic to Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland. In Orkney, one of its most accessible and impressive sites is at Yesnaby, where its bright, diminutive flowers can be enjoyed during its two flowering periods in May and July.

Afternoon - A chance to get close-up to the large colony of (hopefully) flowering Primula scotica plants at Yesnaby, with John Crossley, our local botanical recorder, who will tell us more about this special plant and its habitat. This session will require only a short, easy walk and there is no need to book.
Brian Ribbands, our local beetle recorder, will then take us to seek the very distinctive looking beetle, Chrysolina latecincta, another speciality of the West Mainland cliff tops. It is found only in Orkney and at Loch Etive in Argyll & Bute.
