Success For One Of Our Van Assistants
We said goodbye to another member of staff on Tuesday the 21st of June. This staff member started with us in October last year as a van and warehouse assistant.
Since he started work at EO we have watched him grow in confidence and self belief. When he started we asked him what he wanted to get from his time at EO, he said he wanted to be more confident when dealing with the public. We can definitely say he is more confident dealing with customers, especially as he has moved on to a role where he will interact with many different folk.
We are delighted that this member of staff has moved into permanent employment. We wish him all the best in his new job.

Diverted From Landfill
If you picked up this week’s Orcadian, you might have seen the article about Employability Orkney - Restart Orkney. In the article it tells you a bit about how much we divert from incineration and landfill. So, we thought we would pop up a peedie post about it as well.
Part of our ethos is reuse, repair, recycle we want to encourage folk to donate it instead of dump it.
We keep track of how much we divert from incineration and landfill every month and we think this is something that we need to share as this is pretty impressive.
From April 2021 to March 2022, we diverted approximately 115 tonnes of items that would have otherwise ended up heading to the dump.
So far from April 2022 to the end of June 2022 (yes this is just in 3 months) we have diverted approximately 23 tonnes of furniture, household items and electricals from going to landfill. This includes over 30 sofas, 7 cookers, 128 dining chairs, 76 lamps, 21 vacuums and even 2 baths and a toilet.
With this we are helping to protect our beautiful local environment as well as provide much needed low-cost household items to those who need it.
Thank you for continuing to support our charity so we can carry on supporting individuals in to mainstream employment as well as helping protect our environment.

22 June 2022 Restart Reshuffle
On Thursday the 17th of June we decided to have a good old Restart Reshuffle. The shop has been spruced up inside and out over the last few months but we like to get things looking fresh and new.
One of the best things about our reshuffle days is it is a real team building day, everyone chips in and works together and by the end of the day we have accomplished so much.
Everyone worked hard and as you can see from the photos below you can see they all did a fab job.

Our valuable service could not run effectively without the help of our relief van drivers covering busy periods, holidays, sickness etc. It is a paid position (£10 per hour) there is some heavy lifting involved but is a hugely rewarding job.

08 June 2022Developing the Young Workforce Orkney - Young People Are Great Campaign
On Monday 6th of June was the launch of Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Scotland’s Young People are Great campaign. This campaign was aimed to highlight the key achievements and celebrate the successes of young folk across Scotland.
The campaign is running for a week, and each day they are sharing case studies from local young folk who have achieved success in education, training, volunteering or working.

We know it can be frustrating missing out on items because you are unable to get into town. Well, we have found that social media is the key.
If you find something on our social media pages that you want, give us a PM and with a few simple steps we can have the item paid for and ready to head to JBT.
Our friendly staff can send additional photos to you, so you can see the item from every angle. We send payment links via text message or PM on social media. We will deliver your new items to JBT free of charge ready for uplift from your local haulier. There will be charges from your haulier for delivery so please contact them for prices.
