In the documentary ‘SMILE and WAVE’ the flow of the tide and memories of the past, in particular director Eva's father, are intertwined with the vulnerability of life and what remains when something is gone. Amongst the many treasures that Eva finds along the shore of Vesterålen, Norway, one in particular is the heart urchin. ‘It is magical and secretive, thinner than an eggshell and as vulnerable as you and me. In a universe of skeletons and waving barnacles emerges a story of a life’.
Director Eva Charlotte Nilsen will be attending our screening to give a Q & A after the film. Orkney Voices will read poetry and prose in response to the themes, and Douglas Montgomery will play the Hardanger Fiddle to compliment the evening.
If you attend any of the Orkney Nature Festival events in 2023, it would really help us if you could take a minute to complete the very brief feedback form here. Thank you.
