Throughout the Festival

Orkney Nature Festival 2025 Collaborative Project

The project has asked school students from across the island locations who will compete in the Island Games 2025 (to be hosted in Orkney in July) to research a species of Plant or Animal which is native to their island, and to create a poster based on this. All posters have been displayed in a specially-created online gallery, grouped by their location. There has been an large response to the project, with over 300 students taking part from 11 Island Locations - and more still to be received. From our close neighbours in Shetland, to our distant friends in the Falkland Islands, the diversity of nature has been well and truly represented. https://onf2025.wixsite.com/collab

Stand in the centre of the Listening Wall and hear the sounds of the nature reserve amplified as if by magic. The wall overlooks the Loons wetland, which is home to a variety of birds - from waders nesting in the nearby fields, to raptors circling overhead, to the buzz of insects and the quacking of ducks.

This self-guided event will be running throughout the week, so come by any time - there will be leaflets there with information about the sounds you’ll hear, and about the wall and surrounding poetry installation.
