Holm Sailing Club is based in the village of St. Mary's. Points racing is held during the summer in Snipe dinghies.
Orkney has been blessed with fine weather for the 2017 local regattas. The last open event in Orkney's 2017 sailing calendar was the Kemp Cup, where Fredrik Sundman won the big trophy sailing Libertine 2, David Clouston won the Tennents Cup sailing Smyril. The Holm Snipes were represented by young Glen Foubister with Joe Drever sailing No Fear.

Club boat 'Red Bull' has been sold and is now being renovated by the Foubisters (Neil and Glen).

Marit Bouwmeester and Peter Burling win the World Sailing awards. Marit Bouwmeester (Netherlands) currently holds the Olympic, World and European championship titles for the Laser Radial. Peter Burling (New Zealand) is an Olympic medalist (Gold in 49er at Rio), a hot shot from the world of Americas Cup racing and it currently competing in the Volvo Ocean Race.
Ian Lipinski from Brittany has won the Mini Transat (prototype class), a singlehanded race across the Atlantic. Erwan Le Draoulec from L'Orient won the series class.
