Orkney Regatta Dates: Dates have been set for the summer sailing in Orkney:

Orkney is hosting the 2013 UK Snipe National Championships. The event will be held in the first weekend of August; 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2013. For more details check out the Orkney Snipe Nationals facebook page.

In Kirkwall the Orkney Sailing Club has built a new training centre and changing facility in Hatston. The new building is very plush, a great improvement over the old portacabins.

Slightly further afield Pentland Firth Yacht Club will be hosting their 60th Anniversary Regatta on 22/23rd June. The club is based in Scrabster.

Club News

Tuesday evening Points Racing began on Tuesday May 14th 2013 with 8 boats competing. Check the results page. Tuesday evening racing will continue with a 7pm start. On the last Friday each month the club will host a sailing taster session, this will allow crews to have a go at helming and novices a chance to try sailing. The first session will be held on Friday 31st May with a 7pm start. Contact Neil Foubister for more details.

Holm Regatta is to be held on Saturday 17th August this year.

British double Olympic Medalist Andrew Simpson dies in a tragic accident while training for the America's Cup in San Francisco Bay.

Shetland is to be the venue for the 2014 European Championships for the Fireball class, an event they have previously hosted.

The 2012 UK Snipe National Championships was held in Dale Yacht Club, near Milford Haven in Penbrokeshire.

The 2013 Island Games is to be held in Bermuda from 13th to the 19th July 2013. The racing will use the Laser and Laser Radial classes.
