Kirk Belles

The kirk has a choir which plays an active part in the music of the kirk and loves to sing! The choir practises regularly and, as well as sharing in congregational hymns, the members often sing choir pieces in Sunday services.  Choir pieces are sung a cappella with songs and hymns ranging from unison to SSAA; two soprano and two alto parts.  Songs of praise, both modern and traditional, are an integral part of worship in the Orphir and Stenness Kirk.

Within the choir is a group called The Kirk Belles. Gradually, the group has extended its repertoire and regularly entertains community organisations and appears in local concerts.  The all female group sings a cappella and performs a range of sacred, popular and traditional songs in a style that is influenced by harmonies in choral music.

The main events that The Kirk Belles took part in last year include a Musical Extravaganza Concert in Orphir with Alpha Dixie, Ronald Anderson, The Wrigley Sisters and The Chair, an event called Hymns to Scottish Tunes with fiddle player Robin Barr and a fund-raising concert for the Orkneyinga Saga Centre with Hadhirgaan, Sarah Jane Gibbon & Emma Grieve and the Wrigley Sisters.  The group will also appear in the Orkney Folk Festival 2019
