First Round of LEADER Projects Approved in Orkney Posted on 15 April 2009 A number of community projects in Orkney have benefited from the first round of LEADER funding allocations. Seven projects in total were awarded funding by the local LEADER action group including ranger services for the North and South Isles, a renewable energy project, a pilot transport scheme and a mentoring scheme for helping school leavers to develop their social skills and employment opportunities. The total funding provided is just over £150,000. Specific projects to benefit include the Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership project. Orkney has a total of £2.11 million to spend over the next five years on eligible projects aimed at encouraging economic and community well-being throughout Orkney.
