FSRT and Coach UpdateKeldafest 3 - Norway TripCopinsay Paddle Saturday 22 May 2010Orkney achieve national canoe polo successFrom football to kayaking - My experience so far........Index Club Paddle - Thursday 6 May 2010by Dennis Bichan - 19:04 on 10 May 2010Force 5-6 northerly wind so to find some shelter we went to Houton where nine of us set off and turned east. After battling into the wind for a mile or so, Kristian turned back with the three girls and landed on the Holm of Houton for a bit of exploring. They later paddled round the west of the Holm back into the wind and learned how to cope with the conditions under Kristian's watchful eye. The rest of us paddled on into the wind and sea until we landed on the east side of Orphir Bay. From the sea we thought we had spotted a cave at the site of a recent land slip but it turned out to be little more than a dark coloured indent on the cliff face! After a short rest we headed back and experienced an exhilarating run back with the following sea and wind. Not the longest paddle ever but considering the wind and the fact it was only the second sea paddle of the year, it was just fine. Great opportunity, learning to cope with the wind in safe conditions with experienced paddlers and instructors. Add your comment |
