FSRT and Coach UpdateKeldafest 3 - Norway TripCopinsay Paddle Saturday 22 May 2010Club Paddle - Thursday 6 May 2010From football to kayaking - My experience so far........Index Orkney achieve national canoe polo successby Peter Woodward and Mary Saunders - 22:20 on 19 April 2010Overcoming, volcanic ash, closed airports and packed ferries, the Orkney Canoe Polo team returned victorious from the final round of the division two canoe polo league. The last matches were played outdoors at the Falkirk Wheel on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th April.
The Orkney team, Kristian Cooper, Graham Summers, Torquil Clyde, Colin Rendall, Peter Woodward and Ansgar Vinke, entered the final round of games in a strong postion, lying second in the league behind Fife CAG and with a very impressive goal difference.
The first game was against Stirling McLaren with the Orkney team coming away with a very convincing 5 - nil victory. Next up were the Stiriling Uni side with the northeners coming away with a resounding victory, winning 6 – nil. The next match, against Mighty DUCCS proved to be an eye opener and Orkney were lucky to emerge from the chaos with a 2 – nil win. The last game on Saturday was against old friends Napier University who managed to score against Orkney, ending their clean sheet. After a tough game, Orkney came out on top, with the final score 3 – 1.
Sunday saw another round of 3 games starting with Scarlet Ladies B. Despite beginning the match with only 4 players on the pitch, Orkney managed a close win, with a final score of 2 – 1. Next up were FCAG who were leading the league going into this round of competition. Overcoming a tough defence, Orkney soundly beat the Fife team with a score of 4 – nil. The third match was against Strathclyde Uni who Orkney also beat 2 – 1. The final game should have been against Heriot Watt but, as they were a no show, Orkney were awarded the game 3 goals to nil.
