Orkney Masters round-up

Not a big turnout spectator wise for the Orkney Masters Darts which was a pity as there were some great darts players and with only six of the professionals travelling north, ten local players took to the stage.

With two lots playing each other, 2 locals would make the quarter finals at least and doing so, were Brian Moar 5-1 winner over John Hamilton and Simon Parry 5-4 winner over Gary Wilson.

Also making the quarter finals were Alan Norris with a 5-2 defeat of Leigh Shearer who had 2 X 180's.

Kim Huybrechts beat Stuart Thomson 5-0, the only Nil score of the night, Brendan Dolan was a 5-1 winner over Iain Wilkie while John Henderson beat Derek Firth 5-2.

World Champion Scott Mitchell came from behind to defeat Robbie Stanger 5-3 who played really well to take 3 games.

Also playing well was Stevie Linklater but he found Robert Thornton too hot and went down 5-2. Game of the night was the quarter final game between Simon and Robert racing into a 4-1 lead only to see Robert run out 5-4 winner.

Joining him was Alan 5-2 over Brian, Kim 5-3 over Brendan and Scott who beat John in a great game 5-4.

Semi-final winners were Alan, and Robert, who took out the World Champion Scott 5-2 but he couldn't keep it up as he lost out to Alan 5-2 in the final. The Big raffle was won by Malcolm Coghill.

It's on to the domestic scene on Saturday with the Shapinsay Open. There's a separate ladies and gents singles so it's a great chance to get some top class play in and there's good prizes, but you must catch the 11.30am boat! Don't forget that the boat will be leaving for Kirkwall at 8pm and not 7.15pm.

The Domestic Cups get underway on Monday with the St Ola Cup, it's for 'B' League registered players. It's in the Masonic at 7.30pm and it's for teams of four to six players.

On Friday, September 11, 2015, it's the turn of the 'A' League players with the Allied Hotels Cup which is for teams of three of four players.  It's played in the Legion at 7.30pm and there will be a competition for first round losers, and of course teams with six registered players can enter two teams.
