Two horse race at the top

It looks like a two-horse race now for the Williamson’s ‘A’ League title, as the Commodores lost ground by only drawing 6-all with the Untouchables. That allowed the two leaders to go three points clear of them.

The Legion also increased their games difference by beating RBLM 11-1, while the Golf Club came from 4-2 down to beat the Untouchables ‘A’ 8-4, so they are both stll level on points. Games are running out with only three still to play.

It was also dramatic at the bottom of the league with both bottom teams winning.

The Nomads beat Quoyburray ‘B’ 7-5 and are now within one point of escaping relegation but Quoyburray, the last team, also won, beating the Sands 2 7-5. So only two points cover the bottom three teams with two of them going down. No result came in from the Sanday v Wanderers game.

In the Williamson’s ‘B’ League both the Legion Arrows and St Ola have won promotion to the ‘A’ League next season but the title of league champions is still to be settled.

Both had wins last week – The Arrows beat the Bilco Boys 7-5 and the Ola came out 9-3 winners over the Masonic, which leaves both the Masonic and Bilco Boys level in last place.

The Muppets went clear of bottom spot with a 7-5 defeat of the Motorhoose. The Shore are clear in third spot after a 7-5 win over Shapinsay.

No result came in from the Tankerness v Murray Arms game.

180s from: Garry Peace, Andrew Rendall, Michael Montgomery, Neil Croy, Ian Findlay, Gordon Rendall, Brett Dickenson, Gary Wilson, Ian Wilkie, Ben Hogan, Michael Bain, Robbie Stanger, Roy Griffiths, Kenny Gillespie, Raymie Rendall and two from Kevin Gray and Stevie Linklater in an 11-darter.

High checkout of a 100 from Neil Croy and Ian Findlay; 101 and 135 Paul Firth; 108 Leigh Shearer; 112 Ian Wilkie; 116 Trever Shearer; 101 Ryan Tulloch; 126 Des Gillespie and 143 Derek Firth.

It’s crunch time Friday night as both East ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams travel to Stromness for the annual East v West games in the Stromness Golf Club. A bus will leave the Kirkwall Legion at 7pm. All reserves are requested to travel.

One change in the ‘B’ team – Andrew Moar will replace David Fitzpatrick, who is working offshore.
