Legion run comes to en end

One of the greatest records in the K-DDL has gone, as the Legion standing on 89 games undefeated, reaching back to January 2010, lost the last three singles to crash out 7-5 to the Commodores. Will it ever be beaten, maybe, maybe not?

The last record of 72, by the old Nomads lasted over 40 years. It must have been a great game with five 180s scored, and a couple of high finishes.

There were good wins of 9-3, by the Wanderers over RBLM, and 8-4 for the Untouchables against Quoyburray. The Golf Club also won 8-4 against the Sands 2.

Quoyburray ‘B’ had a good draw home to the Untouchables ‘A’ but top score went to the Sanday boys, 11-1 over the new Nomads.

In the Williamsons ‘B’ League, there was no joy for the two new teams.

The Masonic put up a good show against Shapinsay but found the isles boys too good, and they lost out 7-5.

The Muppets couldn’t handle St Ola and went down 8-4. That was the game score as the Motorhoose beat the Shore by, and 8-4 seemed to be the favourite score, as the Murray Arms won by that margin against the Bilco Boys. There was also a good 7-5 win for the Legion Arrows over the Tankerness boys.

Team captains are reminded that when making out the score cards, no nicknames or first names should be used.

Surnames must be applied so they can be checked off the registered players lists.

180s came from Robbie Stanger, Kevin Gray, Billy Ward, who also had a 171; Edrian Skea, Liam Drever, Kenny Gillespie, Fraser Laird, Colin Barnett, Martin Peace, Michael Moodie and Ivan Leslie. Two came from Raymond Foubister, Brian Moar, Dave Noble and Derek Firth.

High checkouts of a 100 came from Robbie Stanger who also had a 124; 100s from Derek Ward Jnr, Ian Findlay, Martin Peace; a 101 from Brian Moar, in a 13 darter; 102 for Colin Findlay; 105 for Edrian Skea; 120 for Colin Kirkpatrick; 121 from Ross Groundwater; and 141s from Ian Linklater and Craig Taylor. There are some big games this Saturday as two gents teams and one ladies team cross the Firth to take on Caithness, in Wick.

All three teams will be defending the trophies won last year.

Festive raffle tickets are now available from team captains.

League entry fees are now due. Last date October 13.
