Legion are Orkney champions

There were a few surprises last week in the Williamson’s darts leagues, starting with the first defeat of the season for ‘A’ League side Sanday.

It was RBLM, last year’s ‘B’ League champions, who did the damage with an 8-4 scoreline.
The result means that the Legion are now clear at the top, after a 11-1 win out at Quoyburray, who are equal bottom, along with Meadowbank, who were 9-3 losers to the Commodores.
Both teams still have to register a point, and there was another defeat for the Untouchables — this time 8-4 to the Golf Club — and the result leaves last year’s runners-ups in third bottom spot and in real danger of relegation. The Untouchables have never been worse off than fourth place this century.
There was also another defeat for Untouchables ‘A’, who went down 9-3 to Wanderers.

No change at the top of the Williamson’s ‘B’ League, as Shapinsay go marching on still undefeated with full points after a 9-3 defeat of Deerness, which leaves them third bottom.
At long last, there was a win for the Nomads — 7-5 over the Shore ‘2’ — and Tankerness are up in to third spot following their 7-5 defeat of the Sands.
The Murray Arms appear to be the main challengers to the Isles boys, after their 8-4 win over the Bilco Boys.
The Legion Arrows had a good 7-5 win over the Shore, while the Likely Lads and Shore ‘2’ shared the points in a six-all draw.

There were 180s from Trevor Shearer, Alan Gray, Graham Louttit, Archie Yule, Peter Liddle, Derek Ward Jnr, Billy Eunson, Gary Wilson, Ivan Leslie, Craig Taylor, Keith Brumpton, Ross Donaldson, Michael Bain, Ian Wilkie, who also had a 171, Stevie Linklater, Bruce Moar, Roy Foubister, Neil Drever, and Billy Ward.

High checkouts: 100 and 108 from Michael Moodie; Ivan Leslie had a 108 and 124; Kevin Gray 109; 110 Ryan Tulloch and Brian Moar; 124 Cammy Scott; and 130 Bruce Moar.

The Kirkwall Legion had no problems in winning the Orkney Team Championship, with a 13-5 defeat over the West champions, the Stromness Legion.
The Kirkwall Legion pairing of Derek Firth and Kevin Gray also won the Orkney Doubles, and Derek took the singles title as well in what were last year’s postponed games.

It is the big one on Friday, night, with the brand new singles cup, the Jim Scollie Masters, in the Legion. Club names by 7.30pm. It replaces the Commodore Singles, so it is a ranking points event and is for registered players only. Then, next Friday, the ‘B’ boys get their chance, with the ‘B’ League Doubles, in the Legion.
