11 180's in the opening games
THERE was a great start to the new season, but with no surprise or shock results.

In the Williamson’s ‘A’ League, only one of the three promoted teams won and that was the Golf Club who beat another promoted team Wanderers ‘B’ 7-5.

The other one, RBL2, found it hard going as they went down 10-2 to Untouchables ‘A’ who must be one of the contenders for the ‘A’ crown and it was the top score in  the Williamson’s ‘A’ League.

Not far behind were the Legion, the defending champions as they beat Quoyburray 9-3, the same score as the Untouchables beat Meadowbank by. The Wanderers found it tough going out in Quoyburray against the ‘B’ team, but still come home 7-5 winners.

There were mixed fortunes for the new boys in the Williamson’s ‘B’ League – two wins and two defeats.

Leading the way, with the top score of the week were Sanday as they destroyed the Sands 11-1.
Shore ‘2’ got off to a good start with a 7-5 defeat of the Likely Lads, but no luck for Deerness as they went down 10-2 to the Fanooks who must be strong contenders for the ‘B’ title.

But let’s not forget the Murray Arms who are hard to beat on their home boards and they proved that with a 8-4 defeat if the Shore and there was a very good win for Tankerness with a 7-5 score over new boys Bilco Boys.

It’s early in the season, but already 11 180s have been scored by Ian Findlay, Wayne Monkman, Aaron Mitchell, Jimmy Miller, defending 180 champ Kevin Gray, Colin Ross, Ian Wilkie, father and son Michael Muir and two from Stevie Linklater.

There were high checkouts of 101 from Davy Kirkpatrick, 105 from Jimmy Miller, Neil Tait and Ross Groundwater both hit 107, Ian Wilkie 108, Bruce Moar 116 and topping the lot, with a 154 was president Craig Taylor, which will no be far off the top comes the end of the season.

Team captains are reminded that reserves can now be used from the start in league games.

The first cup of the season is the ‘B’ League Singles being played in the Royal British Legion on Friday, September 24. Names in by 7.30pm.

There will be a committee meeting on Wednesday, September 22, in the Masonic Club, at 8pm.
