Short life working groups

From time to time, Delivery Groups of Orkney Partnership set up short life working groups to focus on a specific, time-limited task and report back to their parent Delivery Group.

Two short-life working groups are currently operating:

Child Poverty Task Force

Set up in 2020 by the Strong Communities Delivery Group in response to Scottish Government legislation and ambitions to reduce Child Poverty across Scotland, then overseen by the Community Wellbeing Delivery Group, this group delivered the draft Child Poverty Strategy for Orkney 2021-2023 in Autumn 2021 and in Spring 2022 will convene development workshops to produce an action plan.

In Summer 2021 The Orkney Partner's Child Poverty Task Force launched a consultation on Making Ends Meet. The survey is open ended, aiming to gather information - as it happens - from families experiencing hardship. Information from the survey will be used to inform the development of the Child Poverty Strategy.

Economic Recovery Steering Group (ERSG)

Set up in 2020 in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on local economy and employment, this group is working in tandem with the Sustainable Recovery Delivery Group which is embedding the Board's climate emergency agenda across the Partnership. The actions undertaken by both groups will contribute to Orkney’s progress towards net zero, adaptation to climate change and a “Just Transition” for all to a greener economy.

Membership of the ERSG comprises:

  • Nine representatives from Orkney’s business sector.
  • Five Elected Members of the Council
  • Senior officers from the Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

ERSG developed the ASPIRE Strategy and, with local business leaders, set up a limited company ASPIRE Orkney to take advantage of government funding sources and help businesses engage with community planning issues. ASPIRE builds on the premise that to recover from the pandemic, and build a better future, Orkney must aspire to be Ambitious, Sustainable, Prosperous, Inclusive, Resilient and Enterprising.
