Non-fiction Book Group

Contact: Bill Stout

 Email: [email protected]

Each meeting is based on discussion of a book of popular non-fiction. The reading list is set by the members, each taking a turn to make a proposal. The diverse backgrounds of the membership ensures a varied mix of subjects, necessarily presented at a non-specialist level. The amount of prior expertise required to understand and engage with each topic is naturally limited. The aim is to find readings which stimulate discussion rather than present pure information.

The group currently has five members. We would welcome further participants, but we have agreed to a limit of seven members to keep discussion manageable. Currently meetings are held at the group leader’s house in Kirkwall. The target is one meeting in six weeks, but that can change depending on members' circumstances. The meetings are currently held in the morning from 11.00am, with the date of the next meeting being agreed each time, rather than having a forward schedule.
