Today is the centenary of the deaths during the Great War of five Orcadian soldiers.  One, Edward Seatter of Rousay, died serving in 8th/10th Gordons during the hard fighting of the Battle of Arras, 1917.  The other four all died in far away Iraq, then called Mesopotamia, when 1st Seaforths stormed the Turkish defences at Istabulat, between Baghdad and Samarra.  The biography of one of the four Seaforths, Malcolm Harray who was born in Harray, has been added as a pdf to the Harray section of the website.  It includes a description of the action which took his and three other Orcadian lives and can be downloaded direct using the link below.
