New War Memorial Names

Last Friday John Dowell added a new panel to the north World War 2 pillar of Kirkwall War Memorial, see link below.  The panel has on it the names of AB James Linklater, who died in an accident at Scapa Pier in 1939, and his stepson Norman Linklater, who died in Eastbank Hospital in 1947 of TB contracted in Belgium while he served there with the Royal Engineers.  A few weeks ago John also added two names to the South Ronaldsay War Memorial, one to each of its World War panels.  These are Deckhand Alexander Brown, who died in 1918 of bronchitis, and Gunner John Berston, who died in 1941 of diphtheria in a German PoW Camp.  John Berston's biography has been added to the South Ronaldsay page of the website's Memorials section.
