Major James Logie Harcus of Westray and Sydney.

Today is the centenary of the death on Gallipoli of James "Hamish" Harcus, during the tricky preparations for the successful evacuation of the Anzac beachhead.  Hamish was one of three senior Australian officers killed when a Turkish shell landed in a sap on Russell's Top on 11th December 1915.  His biography has been available on the Legion website for nearly ten years as a (large) Word document, with photos of the location and the memorial he is commemorated on there taken during battlefield visits in May and September 2005.  It can now be downloaded direct as a 2-page pdf using the link below.
