The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has an ongoing remit to maintain the graves of the World War casualties in all UK cemeteries.  A few years ago its liaison with Orkney Islands Council identified that soldier David Laird had no headstone recording his grave in Burray Cemetery.  A search of the local and CWGC cemetery records confirmed that he is buried there, but did not reveal the location of his grave.  This week a CWGC team visiting Orkney positioned a new headstone in the cemetery, close to the Burray War Memorial.  A photo of it can be seen using the link below.
